About Babes In Toyland

Reluctant poster grrrls for the 1990s "women in rock" movement, Babes in Toyland were purveyors of an utterly abrasive, confrontational blend of punk rock attitude, grungy guitar thunder, and unbridled vocal aggression. Lead singer Kat Bjelland's baby-doll aesthetic (brought fully into the mainstream by friend and former pre-BITL bandmate Courtney Love) provided a sharp contrast to her fiery caterwaul, which occasionally overshadowed the band's music. After releasing several albums for the independent Twin/Tone Records, the band made the jump to the majors with 1992's Fontanelle. They released the album Nemesisters in 1995 and called it quits shortly thereafter, leaving good-girl pop charred in their wake.
