Argentine New Wave band Virus became an instant phenomenon with their debut album Wadu Wadu, driven by midtempo guitar, jerky vocals and quirky synths. The band's spectacular career was cut short by the untimely death of its lead singer in 1988, but Virus's remaining members carried on—even opening for Bryan Adams and David Bowie in 1989. After a hiatus they returned with the albums Nueve and Obras Cumbres, and joined young leading artists Miranda! and Babasonicos on the groundbreaking 2006 collaboration Caja Negra.
