About The Apx

Atlanta's the APX are a husband-and-wife duo known for their hooky throwback funk and electro-R&B. They first grabbed listeners with their 2016 debut, Electrik Funk. Formed in 2016 in Atlanta, the APX grew out of the creative and romantic partnership between singer Erika Dawn Rhodes and keyboardist Daniel "Dee" Rhodes. Prior to forming the APX, both musicians had built their own careers, with Atlanta native Dee having grown up playing jazz and the Detroit-born Erika having toured in rock and cover bands. They first made contact online in 2013 over their shared musical interests and eventually married. Basing themselves in Atlanta, they initially founded a successful wedding and events band. However, looking to do something more creative, they began working on original music, drawing upon their love of classic funk, pop, and R&B. The APX's debut album, Electrik Funk, arrived in 2017 and gained buzz with the single "Right on Time." Since then, they have opened for artists like Dam Funk, Kindred the Family Soul, Robert Glasper, and others. In 2019, they issued their sophomore album, Amplified Experiment. ~ Matt Collar
