About Stanley Clarke
Philadelphia-born bassist Stanley Clarke has been a pioneer of both the electric and upright acoustic bass due to his virtuosic technique. He got his start playing with straight-up jazzmen such as Horace Silver and Joe Henderson, but became known as one of the prime movers in the jazz-rock fusion movement of the 1970s as a member of fusion supergroup Return to Forever. Clarke skillfully blended rock, jazz, and funk on solo recordings and in collaborations with keyboardist George Duke, Billy Cobham, and others. Clarke's distinctive slapping technique has influenced numerous technically stunning players, from Victor Wooten to Marcus Miller. ~ Rovi Staff
