Love Letters

Love Letters

A foray into midtempo R&B, Love Letters navigates the various stages of a relationship and examines dimensions of romance. The silky offering captures infatuation in the honeymoon phase as Kashcpt and his love interest “see sunsets on the West Coast” and “hit the South Side for a good time” on the melodic “West Coast”. With the assistance of Aida Lae, FLVME and Nanette, the Capetonian artist further explores longing, jealousy, remorse and, eventually, loss. As wistful piano keys signal an unravelling relationship on “Too Close”, Kash reminds us to “enjoy that journey” because we “can’t know when it’s curtains”. Closure is found on the Baby S.O.N-aided “Let You Go”, with Kash admitting that he “can’t keep holding out”—a moment of acceptance located between a subdued bassline and rolling percussion.
