About Kim Weston
Soul singer Kim Weston started out recording for Motown during the label's mid-1960s golden age, scoring a number of minor hits until her breakthrough as Marvin Gaye's duet partner on the 1966 single “It Takes Two.” Weston left Motown in '67 and recorded for other labels, including Stax, over the next few years, but only her 1968 version of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” (as featured in the famed WATTSTAX film) gained much attention. She drifted out of music for a while before directing her work towards the U.K. dance scene in the late '80s/early '90s, and ultimately taking a job as a DJ in her native Detroit.
