Formed in 2004, The Ghost Inside meld hardcore punk’s tempos and bruising vocals with shredding metal riffs and a galvanising, us-against-the-world lyrical mentality. This approach illustrates a deep resilience, which the Los Angeles band leaned on after being involved in a fatal bus crash in 2015 that caused drummer Andrew Tkaczyk to lose his leg. If any group could return from this trauma, however, it’s The Ghost Inside: in 2020, the band roared back with their first song in six years, “Aftermath”—a pummelling metalcore single with a sludgy breakdown and soul-searching lyrics brimming with anger and frustration.
