Pixinguinha: The Songwriters

Pixinguinha: The Songwriters

Pixinguinha was a Brazilian Louis Armstrong, using jazz to enliven popular older songs and create new standards built on Afro-Brazilian rhythms. His style was called choro and artists from the last few decades have made it their own. Groups like Trio Madeira Brasil weave guitar lines as if braiding silk, while others introduce fresh elements, like a sly flute melody, into their homage.
