Luis Bacalov Essentials

After working as an assistant to Ennio Morricone in 1958, this versatile Argentine-Italian went on to compose some of Italy's more memorable Spaghetti Western scores without abandoning the tango spirit of his Buenos Aires origins. Indeed, Quentin Tarantino found several of Bacalov's compositions epic, volatile and twangy enough to borrow for Kill Bill and Django Unchained. Hear Bacalov's lighter touch in his jazzy 1980 score for Fellini's City of Women (La città delle donne) and in the lilting accordions and strings of Michael Radford's Il Postino, which earned Bacalov an Academy Award.
