Breaking out of pre-Pinochet Chile in the late ‘60s, Los Ángeles Negros borrowed elements from British rock ‘n' roll and Latin America's rich bolero tradition to create a new kind of romantic, dream-like pop. Early albums like Porque Te Quiero and Y Volveré were instantly intoxicating, with subtle hints of psychedelia and melodies steeped in melancholy. Though the original lineup fronted by Germain de la Fuente split up in 1974, the band's legacy lived on, spawning plenty of imitators on their home turf and influencing acts across the Americas.
