Memphis rocker Jay Reatard passed away in 2010 at only 29, but the impact he left on the indie scene is considerable. Reatard emerged as a purveyor of scuzzy, lo-fi punk tunes when he was just a teenager, contributing to seven bands in the early noughties before striking out on his own. By the time he released 2006's Blood Visions, he'd already become something of a 21st-century garage-rock pioneer. That success led to a deal with Matador and 2009's Watch Me Fall, a refined statement distilling Reatard's many influences, showing that he was ready to take on the world.
