Graveyard Essentials

Graveyard Essentials

Graveyard serve up a dark, boiling stew of '70s hard rock, blues and psychedelia. Hailing from Gothenburg, a town renowned for its scene of riff-worshippers, the hairy Swedes hammer out plenty of lean yet muscular plodders—like 2011's “Uncomfortably Numb”—infused with haunted atmosphere and a high-volume anguish recalling blues titans Free. The band also make incursions into proggy doom (“Satan's Finest”) and gospel-kissed downer ballads (“Too Much Is Not Enough”), and rock the same kind of fuzz-baked aggression on which Sub Pop thrived in grunge's early years (“Please Don't”).
