About Mafikizolo

A thriving musical institution since their self-titled 1997 debut, Mafikizolo assembled in Johannesburg and consisted originally of composer Theo Kgosinkwe, lead singer Nhlanhla Nciza and singer Tebogo Madingoane (who died in 2004). Purveyors of the popular fusion of house and traditional African sounds known as kwaito, and with a moniker that signifies “newcomers”, Mafikizolo have refined and repositioned their sound while remaining true to their Africa-meets-dance-floor essence. After becoming an international sensation in 2001, when Little Louie Vega remixed their "Loot" for his Masters at Work label, Mafikizolo released Sibongile (Thank You) the following year. This cool collective expression of gratitude for Nciza surviving a car crash also contained future wedding staple "Ndihamba Nawe". In 2013, Kgosinkwe and Nciza returned from a six-year hiatus with Reunited, which contained both the triumphant dance hit "Khona" and "Happiness", an experimental collaboration with Nigerian singer May D that provided a recipe they perfected with Nigerian superstar Yemi Alade for their 20th-anniversary album, 20.
