Talking Book is Macy Gray’s album-length cover of the Stevie Wonder classic, and it's pure celebration and reverence. Gray mostly plays it straight; her raspy vocals give raw-edged moxie to the dreamy “You Are the Sunshine of My Life”, while the ballad “Blame It on the Sun” is as sweet as the original. But on “Superstition”, Gray slows things down, her somnolent rendition completely reworking Wonder’s funky vibe, while “Maybe Your Baby” ups the ante with heavy guitars.
