Curated for the 150th anniversary of Satie’s birth, Olga Scheps’ album offers pensive interpretations of the avant-garde master’s most famous piano works. Her existential performance of the well-known Gymnopédie No. 1 conjures mystical imagery, and alongside wonderful productions of the whimsical Gnossiennes, Scheps includes Satie’s exquisite waltz “Je Te Vieux”, still one of the composer's finest reveries. This thoughtful tribute is augmented by Scheps’ bold decision to include a performance of contemporary composer Chilly Gonzales’ neo-impressionistic, buoyant work for solo piano, “Gentle Threat”.
