Rod Stewart: Influences

Rod Stewart pulled from so many places, not only as a singer but as a songwriter. His love of ‘60s rock 'n' roll, classic soul, the blues, crooners like Sinatra, folk singers like Ewan MacColl and many more are heard in both his own songs and the many he's covered. Otis Redding is all over Stewart's soulful rock singing. Muddy Waters laid the blueprint for his partnership with The Jeff Beck Group. Stewart even pulled from skiffle artists like Lonnie Donegan and The Vipers Skiffle Group, and made a ridiculously big hit out of the introspective jazz-folk singer Tim Hardin's “Reason to Believe".
