Moe Bandy Essentials

As a rodeo rider turned performer, Moe Bandy was the perfect country star for the Urban Cowboy era. He left bronco-busting for singing in the early ‘60s, but it would take another decade playing Texas honky-tonks before his first hit single, 1972's “I Just Started Hatin' Cheatin' Songs Today". Drinking and cheating would inspire many more hits in the following years, as would old-fashioned patriotism: His 1988 hit “Americana” became George Bush's campaign song. Though his hit streak didn't outlast the Bush years, he moved on to success on the Branson circuit.
