As suggested by the title of his watershed 1999 album, Frontera, Jewish Uruguayan singer/songwriter Jorge Drexler operates on the borders of nationality, language and style. In that album's title track, you can hear him transitioning from mellow-voiced troubadour to a vibrant aficionado of Uruguayan roots music. Traditional rhythms, Euro-electronics and a highly refined pop sensibility all come together in glorious tracks like “Bailar en la cueva”, while the Oscar®-winning “Al Otro Lado del Río” finds Drexler at his most elegantly poetic.
