The music of Spanish producer El Guincho combines sounds from around the physical world and adds digital drums and textures straight from cyberspace. “Kalise", off his breakthrough LP, Alegranza, sounds like bedroom pop for people who live in hostels, with its layers of uncannily beautiful loops over a vibrant, syncopated beat. But it would be wrong to call his music fusion: on tracks like “Bombay”, El Guincho puts steel pans and stuttering drums alongside an array of unplaceable sounds, allowing each element to stand out while creating an idiosyncratic style that evokes everything from dub-reggae to Animal Collective.
