Chet Baker: Deep Cuts

Chet Baker: Deep Cuts

This West Coast trumpeter had plenty of respect for East Coast titans, but he played their music in his own fashion. Baker crafted a solo of bluesy beauty from the chords of Charlie Parker's “Barbados”, and his late-career team-up with adventurous pianist Paul Bley indulged in some rough and noir-ish textures, though the melodies of tunes like “How Deep Is The Ocean” always came across with poise.
