Seattle songwriter Scott McCaughey has been a member of the R.E.M. touring band, and has also seen indie-rock success with his band Minus 5, but it all started with the Young Fresh Fellows, his main band through the 1980s. Balancing smart-alecky lyrics with hooky, punk-influenced power-pop, the band were the quintessential “college rock” act of the day. Although the band is technically still together, and play shows occasionally, their recorded output has been minimal in the ‘00s.
