About X Dream

Based in Hohenfelde, Germany, Marcus C. Maichel (b. May 1968) and Jan Mueller (b. February 1970) began writing together in 1989 and first recorded as X-Dream in 1991. Maichel was influenced by electro and reggae, and started making electronic music in 1986. Mueller trained as a sound engineer towards the end of the 80s and the pair met up to work on a session together in 1989. At first they concentrated on a techno sound and had some material released on Tunnel Records. However, after experiencing the trance scene in Hamburg during the early 90s, they switched to that style and subsequently made a number of releases under such names as C.o.p., the Delta, the Pollinator, Moondust and XME over the next few years. In October 1996 they began an association with the UK trance label Blue Room Released, releasing the single ‘The Frog’ and contributing the track ‘No’ to the compilation Trip Through Sound. The following year their single ‘As A Child I Could Walk On The Ceiling’ (as the Delta) became a favourite of many of the top trance DJs notably Mark Allen. In 1998 they released their debut album Radio as well as two new singles, ‘Brain Forest/S.T.O.P.’ and ‘Radiohead’. At the same time as recording their own material their have remixed a number of tracks for other artists including Johann, Koxbox and the Saafi Brothers. While their music retains the simple four-on-the-floor drum patterns of the ‘Goa’ style and a certain dependence on riffs, X-Dream nevertheless have an unmistakable sound characterized by its solid foundations, immense aura and intense psychedelic effects and are virtually unparalleled in this kind of production.
