About Negrocan
Andres Lafone (b. 14 March 1954, Montevideo, Uruguay; bass/vocals), Liliana Chachian (b. 18 April 1964, São Paulo, Brazil; vocals), Davide Giovaninni (b. 19 May 1968, Trieste, Italy; drums/vocals), Neil Angilly (b. 28 April 1967, Redruth, Cornwall, England; keyboards) and Carlos Fuentes (b. 13 December 1955, Chile; percussion). Formed in London in 1991 by Lafone, Negrocan mixed Uruguay’s ‘candombe’ rhythm with Brazilian, funk and jazz influences. Popular on the UK’s Latin and jazz dance scenes (their debut, Medio Mundo, was released on salsa DJ Gerry Lyseight’s Deep South label), they also appeared at festivals throughout Europe.
