Dreamy R&B and hip-hop solo material from Kim Jeong_uk -- a former member of the K-Pop act 24K -- eventually led to his exploration of melodic indie rock. His first EP, #dawn, was issued in 2019, just before his departure from 24K. He formed his own label, and a hip-hop duo with J-Man called AUGUST 051, but his main focus was on establishing a solo career. With help from co-writers and arrangers such Noden and Bayside Pablo, he hit upon a smooth but lo-fi R&B formula during 2020 and 2021, but it was the early 2022 EP, EPisodes -- and the subsequent single "Flower" -- on which he fully embraced a rock approach.
