Estrogen Highs

About Estrogen Highs

Hailing from New Haven, Connecticut, Estrogen Highs are a lo-fi pop band with a stripped-down, jangly attack and a subtly punky attitude. Estrogen Highs were formed by Stefan Christensen, the group's singer, songwriter, guitarist, and occasional keyboard player. The group began as a studio project from Christensen, who had previously worked with the groups Career Suicide, Last Words, and Sudden Works. Christensen debuted Estrogen Highs in 2007, recording a demo tape in which he handled all the instruments; it became the source of "E Major D Construction," which was released as a single on Christensen's Never Heard of It label. Later that year, Christensen turned Estrogen Highs into a proper band with the addition of guitarist and bassist Mark Scialabba; bassist, guitarist, and vocalist Wes Nelson, and drummer Ross Menze. The new lineup set out on tour, and recorded their first album, Tell It to Them, for Dead Beat Records in 2008. A second LP, Friends and Relatives, appeared after several 7" singles in 2010, and was released by Gramercy Records, Christensen's successor to Never Heard of It. In 2012, Estrogen Highs teamed up with the noted pop/punk label Trouble In Mind, who released the band's third full-length project, Irrelevant Future. Trouble in Mind released the fourth Estrogen Highs album, Hear Me on the Number Station, in 2014. ~ Mark Deming
