About Amir Obe
Rapper, singer and producer Amir Obè makes a melodic hybrid of hip-hop and R&B marked by atmospheric, moody production. • Obè was born in Detroit and partially raised in New York City. Armed with a computer microphone, he made his first song, “Step Your Swag Up”, when he was 16 or 17. • Originally known as Phreshy Duzit, he released his debut EP, Brave New World, on Atlantic Records in 2011. He later went independent and changed his name to Amir Obè for the release of his 2014 mixtape Detrooklyn, named for where he was born (Detroit) and the city he moved to as a child (Brooklyn). • He co-wrote Drake’s 2015 song “Star67”, which appears on the mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. • Obè continued releasing music independently before signing with Def Jam and making his label debut with the 2017 EP None of the Clocks Work, followed by three “chapters” of the Can't Be A ____Here EP series in 2018. • In 2020, he returned with the especially dark and cinematic single “Shadow”, produced by HazeBanga and electronic musician Clark.
