More Fun In the New World (Deluxe)

After seeing its best efforts make only a slight indentation on the public consciousness with its earlier single “The Hungry Wolf,” X decided for its fourth album to find the happy middle ground between its aggressive punk origins and American roots influences. “The Have Nots” from X's previous album, Under the Big Black Sun, proved this could be done. With producer Ray Manzarek of The Doors returning for his fourth go-round, X again made a good record that made little commercial imprint. “The New World” and “We’re Having Much More Fun” rocketed out of the gate, while “True Love” appeared in two parts, hoping to catch fire on the second with something resembling a dance-floor effort. “Devil Doll,” “I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts,” “I See Red,” and “Hot House” proved the band hadn’t lost its identity. The deluxe edition includes the demo for “True Love—Part 2,” as well as a fiery demo of “Devil Doll” and seductive basic-sketch demos of “Poor Girl” and “I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts.”
