A key member of the K Records family, prolific songwriter Phil Elverum produced some of his finest work as The Microphones, the formative musical project that introduced the indie world to his lo-fi folk-meets-noise pop aesthetic. Elverum's track record as a producer and engineer was put on display in lush studio touches and gave his contemplative songs a unique gravitas, best highlighted by the acclaimed double LP The Glow Pt. 2. Elverum effectively ended the project in 2003, but not before releasing Mount Eerie, the basis of his recording venture of the same name.
