The Dave Clark Five Essentials

The Dave Clark Five Essentials

The Dave Clark Five came roaring out of Tottenham in the early ‘60s with an eye on The Beatles’ beat-group crown. Their speciality was thuggishly simple R&B-inspired pop with extra emphasis on the rhythm—so much so that they named the band after their drummer. Powerhouse hits such as “Glad All Over” and “Bits and Pieces” pummelled fans into submission with a giddy sense of joy, and even more tender songs like “Because” have a tough backbeat. And in “Catch Us If You Can”, they had a swinging theme for their feature film debut (which also later inspired The Monkees).
