Ted Gärdestad Essentials

Apple Music

In 1971, Swedish pop received a jolt when Ted Gärdestad became the nation's first teen sensation on the power of his smooth, dynamic voice—capable of a delicately sweet falsetto and rich, towering highs. Early hits were focused on catchy power-pop jams and honeyed love songs that left teenage audiences screaming. By the late 1970s, Gärdestad's sound had mellowed into a more straightforward rock sound focused on a blend of tender acoustic songs and epic power ballads accompanied by sweeping strings. His career culminated with a 1979 victory at Melodifestivalen with hit single “Satellit”.
