Formed in Brussels in 1980 by charismatic singer Arno Hintjens and guitarist Jean-Marie Aerts—and taking their name from a surrealist poet—TC Matic traded on uncompromising, distinctly ‘80s cool. Like many bands of the post-punk era, their sound was restless and edgy. But they also gained cachet for experimenting with different musical textures, drawing from New Wave, reggae, blues, French chanson and whatever else they fancied. Four successful albums emerged, and hit single "Oh La La La" from 1981 remains an unlikely staple for any Belgian party.
