Deeply expressive and technically peerless, French coloratura soprano star Sabine Devieilhe initially made her mark singing Mozart in the early 2010s, but over the course of her career she’s expanded her repertoire with characteristic mastery. While she possesses a swooping range and a magical gift for ornamentation, Devieilhe has eschewed florid bravura in favour of bracing directness. Working with pianist Alexandre Tharaud, she achieves electrifying clarity on material sung in her native tongue, especially on love songs by Debussy and Ravel, where her immaculate phrasing and precise control transcend language while retaining an airy grace.
