French rapper Housni Mkouboi, a.k.a. Rohff, was born in Madagascar and raised in Paris. His solo debut, 1999's Le Code de l'Honneur, carved up Arabic lyrics, downtempo breakbeats and savvy samples to establish him as a force in French hip-hop. His fanbase grew quickly, earning Rohff several top 10 hits showcasing heavy kick drums, dynamite choruses, powerful hooks and an expanding collection of collaborations, with Lacrim and Junior Reid, among others. The rapper's later efforts feature a darker gangsta sound, bringing synth riffs and minimal big beats into play.
