Phish: Influences

Phish: Influences

Like most jam bands, Phish owe a deep debt to the Dead's improvisational chops and union of psychedelia and folk. Yet they have numerous other heroes—their funky beats reflect a love for Parliament's roof-tearing bounce, and their twitchy, artsy moments echo Talking Heads' nervy, world music-style pop. Another idol is Frank Zappa, with his brainy mix of satire and complex jazz fusion.
