Nick Mulvey’s pastoral songs are redolent of an English sunset over a multicultural landscape. Having established his world music credentials playing the hang in the instrumental ensemble Portico Quartet, he started the 2010s with a lightly plucked acoustic guitar and a stack of gently mournful folk songs (“Fever To the Form”). His 2014 debut album, First Mind, further established his style, which draws as much on African and South American guitar rhythms as European fingerstyle, and underlines the rhythmic base of the material with fathoms-deep electronic bass (“The Doing Is Done”).
