Manni Sandhu Essentials

Like so many genre-breaking producers before him, Manni Sandhu’s musical career started out in his teenage bedroom, translating the sounds of his parents’ musical heritage into the context of his own listening habits, with the help of his computer’s production software. The ensuing underground mixtapes he created, released at DJ shows in his hometown of Newcastle, soon made a name for Sandhu, through his blending of bhangra with UK bass music, garage and hip-hop. By 2012, Sandhu had readied his debut album, My Time, and spawned the hit single “Door Ni Kulne” with its up-tempo, synth-bhangra mix, before going on to experiment further with singles such as 2019’s trap-referencing “Verified Jatt” and 2021’s hook-laden R’n’B track “Shinin’”, featuring singer Tegi Pannu. Each Sandhu production produces an unexpected, invigorating result, thanks to his collaborative approach that promises to keep pushing the boundaries of modern British Indian music.
