A like-minded posse of Val-de-Marne rappers, beatmakers, DJs and graffiti artists united in the mid-‘90s under the banner Mafia K'1 Fry—translated as African Mafia. It was the individual success of members like Ideal J, Different Teep, 113 and Rohff that brought together freestyle, old-school and hardcore styles—raising their collective profile and beckoning the group EPs Les Liens Sacrés in 1997 and Légendaire in 1998. Street gatherings, raw rap, tight productions and raucous live shows were etched into the DNA of their heavy records, highlighting the communal soul of the Parisian tribe.
