Built around the talents of frontman Luc De Vos, Belgian rock band Gorki originally launched as “Gorky” via a rock band competition. They enjoyed widespread acclaim for thumping yet thoughtful tracks "Anja", "Mia" and "Soms Vraagt Een Mens Zich Af", regularly topping polls as the best songs in Flemish. There was a semi-acoustic phase, then a tweaked moniker, Gorki, plus a new lineup—this time adding Sylvain Van Holme alongside the pivotal De Vos, whose emotion-packed, Springsteen-esque vocal continued to cast light, shade and drama on the imagery of the lyrics.
