Front Line Assembly Essentials

A legend of the Wax Trax! Records scene, Front Line Assembly are one of electro-industrial’s longest-running institutions. Electronic musician Bill Leeb launched the Vancouver project after leaving Skinny Puppy in 1986, notching a string of club hits, including 1988’s “Digital Tension Dementia” and 1992’s “Mindphaser”, that would become rivethead anthems for decades to come. Leeb has worked with a rotating cast of musicians, though his longest-running collaborator remains Rhys Fulber. The electronic producer played a key role in realising the classic fusion of layered beats and dark sci-fi captured on 1990’s Caustic Grip and 1992's subtly more melodic Tactical Neural Implant. But Leeb, who also boasts a long list of side projects, is too creatively restless to repeat himself. In addition to fusing industrial with metal in the mid-’90s, Front Line Assembly have ventured into drum ’n’ bass, dubstep and videogame-score composition.
