Frankie Ruiz Essentials

Frankie Ruiz lived like a demon, sang like an angel, and died at 40, barely starting to sound old. Ruiz proved himself a master salsero in Puerto Rico with solid tracks like "La Rueda" (The Wheel). After going solo in 1985, he pioneered the pop-tinged, brass-heavy sounds of salsa erótica with hits like "Desnúdate Mujer" (Woman, Get Undressed) and then dominated the less licentious salsa romántica scene. Ruiz transformed his life into art, celebrating his release from jail in "Mi Libertad" (My Freedom) and his conversion to Christianity with "Vuelvo a Nacer" (I'm Born Again).
