Chick Corea's extreme stylistic flexibility gave important impulses to ECM's early catalogue with recordings that count as classics of their kind. Two volumes of “Piano Improvisations” initiated the label's widely praised series of solo piano albums. Circle's “Paris Concert” with Anthony Braxton, Dave Holland and Barry Altschul is an enduring landmark of avant-garde improvisation. “Crystal Silence” introduced the duo with vibraphonist Gary Burton, a collaboration that would last for more than 40 years. And “Return to Forever”, drawing upon Chick's early experience of playing Latin music as well as the luminous sound-colours of the Fender Rhodes piano, launched one of the defining groups of the fusion era.
