Doe Maar Essentials

Doe Maar Essentials

These Dutch music champions were the unlikely lads who united rocksteady vibrations with punk swagger on their way to pop superstardom. Primarily active from 1978 to 1984, Doe Maar launched a cultural phenomenon with their first hit, “32 Jaar”, mixing rock guitar and downtempo reggae grooves, and singing in their native language. The group's devout regional following exploded with the release of 1982 single “De Bom”—and it's this anti-nuclear anthem that shows the band at their height, producing polished pop songs incorporating global music influences like the song's frenetic ska backbeat.
