French-Greek Cypriot rapper and vocalist Mélanie Georgiades, a.k.a. Diam's, released her debut Premier Mandat in 1999 but it was her second album, Brut de Femme (2003), that was the real breakthrough. The bursting Spanish guitars and rhythmic reggaeton beats on tracks like “DJ” or her smooth rap and punchy piano chords in “La Boulette” cut through the noise and marked Diam's as a standout voice in French hip-hop. Her best-selling album, Dans Ma Bulle (2006), found success through strong pop harmonies—but following the release of her album S.O.S. (2009), she bowed out of the music industry.
