Cabaret Voltaire: Deep Cuts

Cabaret Voltaire: Deep Cuts

Cabaret Voltaire taught punks how to embrace drum machines—and their hips. But band leader Richard H. Kirk was never content to have the band be remembered merely as post-punk innovators. As the '70s progressed to the '90s, he updated his mainframe and went about rewiring dance music in his own image, doing things like adding a sinister bassline to the acid house of "Info/Acid" and boiling down house music to an eerie, minimal thump on "Don't Drive Fast".
