At Home with Joe Talbot from IDLES: The Playlist

IDLES frontman Joe Talbot had already gone through some difficult periods of isolation that helped prepare him for this pandemic. “I spent five years, five days a week on my own, just looking after my mum who couldn't talk because of a stroke—so I was kind of silent and keeping to myself a lot,” Talbot tells Apple Music. “I feel really lucky to have had some steep learning curves in my life that meant that I was well-equipped for this from day one.” In his revealing At Home With interview with Zane Lowe, Talbot talks about sobriety helping him focus when he’s performing, not considering his band a punk band and how spending time at home has taught him he’s an introvert. He also taps into his love of hip-hop, including artists like Knucks, Capo Lee and Mez, whose track “Babylon Can’t Roll” kicks off this exclusive Apple Music playlist curated by Talbot himself. “He's got everything—his first album, Tyrone, just came out of nowhere,” he says of the UK grime artist. “He’s got his own language, his own vibrancy and his own worlds.”
