Areski Belkacem made an impact with his first release alongside Jacques Higelin. Higelin et Areski (1969) was a mesmerising, minimalist sample of his uncompromising vision, incorporating everything from maracas to mouth harp. Along with his solo debut, 1970's Un beau matin, came Comme à la radio with Brigitte Fontaine: it was the start of a beautiful and fearless partnership, which entirely revamped his sound. Awash with drums—a nod to Areski's North African heritage—as well as enchanting jazz flutes and bursts of psychedelia, this career-spanning selection makes for a mind-blowing listen.
