Although Winter doesn’t stand out as a prominent name on the vast metal landscape, the New York City-based band crafted what many consider to be one of the finest doom-metal albums ever with 1990’s INTO DARKNESS. An oppressively slow, heavy record, the outing is unabashedly bleak, but nonetheless stands as Winter’s magnum opus. After 1994’s ETERNAL FROST EP, the group faded away, leaving only those two offerings (often packaged together) as their gloriously depressing and brief discography.
