Rodrigo Amado

About Rodrigo Amado

Portuguese saxophonist Rodrigo Amado specializes in free-form, composition-in-the-moment jazz. Celebrated by avant-jazz and free improv fans alike, Amado lands firmly on the jazz side of the divide. He was a well-seasoned sideman by the time he released his leader debut, 2003's The Space Between. 2010's Searching for Adam revealed the full maturity of his improvisation, composition, and harmonic architectures. A quartet with Joe McPhee, Kent Kessler, and Chris Corsano released three influential albums, including This Is Our Language (2015) and The History of Nothing (2017). In 2022, Trost issued the unaccompanied saxophone recording Refraction Solo: Live at Church of the Holy Ghost.
