About Mikhail ippolitov ivanov
Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov (1859-1935) was a student and disciple of Rimsky-Korsakov. He taught at the music school in Tbilisi, Georgia, before becoming professor at the Moscow Conservatory. While in Georgia, he gained an appreciation for local folk music, which resulted in his greatest success, the orchestra suite Caucasian Sketches. In later compositions, in almost every genre, he would broaden his listeners' horizons by incorporating Armenian, Turkish, Uzbek, Kazakh, Arabian, Catalan, and Finnish folk music. Stylistically, Ippolitov-Ivanov closely followed the Romantic Russian tradition of Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky and did not alter his technique once he had completed his studies.
