About Mike Evin

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember hearing The Beach Boys' "God Only Knows" for the first time - in a made-for-TV docudrama. It blew me away, and I thought "what IS this?". Only recently did I discover that it was a re-recorded non-Beach Boys version! What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Laura Nyro, Eli and the Thirteenth Confession Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Sweet Emma and Her Preservation Hall Jazz Band Toots & The Maytals, Funky Kingston Something about Laura Nyro just reaches the deepest part of my soul. This was the first album of hers I heard. The spirit of the Sweet Emma album hit me hard, and it inspired my song "Sweet Emma's Group". Funky Kingston brought Toots into my life. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Sweet Emma's Group” This song was inspired by a live Preservation Hall Jazz Band record. The vibe got to me, and I took the stage banter of trumpet player Percy Humphrey and put music to it. Years later, I got the chance to play it for his family in New Orleans.
